Rising Sun Solar Electric welcomes the opportunity to be a bidder on
all government renewable energy projects. With years of experience
in the solar electric industry, Rising Sun Solar is ready to provide
turnkey design, build, and financing services for renewable energy
projects for Federal, State, and County agencies. Rising Sun Solar
has an excellent reputation with the utility company and government
agencies.
In 2004, RSSE installed the 495-module solar electric system for the
Natural Energy Lab (NELHA) in Kona, Hawaii. This project earned LEED
platinum certification. NELHA is home to two pipeline systems which
pump deep and surface seawater to shore 24/7 and a third, the world's
largest and deepest (to a depth of 3,000 feet), is being developed
now.

In addition, Rising Sun has been involved in the Sun Power for Schools
program developed by the Hawaii public school system and the county
public utility companies. The program's intent is to encourage
renewable energy education, promote the concept of photovoltaic
technology as an alternative to conventional fuels, and to reduce
utility costs. Rising Sun Solar successfully completed two of these
projects for Lanai High and Elementary and Na'alehu Elementary (Big
Island).
-
Lanai High: Installed on a new shade structure on August 15, 2005,
this system consists of two PV systems that total 2.5
-
Na'alehu Elementary: Completed in June of 2006, the 1.2 kilowatt PV
system was installed on a covered walkway and will provide power to
the school.

To offset the initial cost of installing a PV system, RSSE can offer
ESC's (energy service contracts) that make solar more affordable to
the state, the county, and non-profits through 3rd party financing.
What is an ESC (Energy Service Contract)?
A customer enters into a contract with a service provider (i.e.
installation company) for the electricity produced through the PV
panels. The customer does not own the system, but instead purchases
the energy from the service provider at a fixed rate lower than the
cost of purchasing energy from the utility company. The service
provider is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and performance
of the equipment for the duration of the contract. At the end of the
contract the customer can buy-out the system at fair market value or
continue the contract.
Net Metering
Spin your electric meter in reverse!!
A Solar system changes the dynamics of your relationship with the
utility. As a clean energy producer you can "Net Meter" your
electricity. Simply, if the solar system produces more energy than you
are using at that moment in time your meter will spin backwards
crediting your account at the full retail rate. When your energy
needs exceed your system's output your meter spins forward. Your
electric meter measures the "net" difference and your utility company
bills you for this amount.
In June 2001 Hawaii became the 35th State to adopt a Net Energy
Metering Law (NEM) allowing renewable energy grid connected systems
up to 50 kilowatts. However, a larger system can be installed, but any
energy not used on site would not be credited to the customer.
Therefore systems larger than 50kw require a more accurate demand
profile analysis which can be provided by Rising Sun to determine the
best size for the customer based on their situation.
Note: There is no charge to become a net-metered customer.
